Clothing Rental

We rent outdoor winter clothing to keep you warm, they include cold weather boots, 100% windproof & waterproof pants and jackets with a polar fleece interior, mitts and polar fleece hats.

    • 12 sets of 100% windproof / breathable four season outer garment gear with polar fleece lining.
    • 30 sets of winter boots.
    • 20 sets of winter gloves.
    • 20 fleece toques.

We recommend that you bring layers for under our shell, for those really brisk days.

X-cross Country Skiing

The Couples Resort - cross-country skiing at Algonquin Park | Ontario Resorts

Of course, the snow is no reason to stay indoors at the Couples Resort. Spending an hour or two on prestine ski trails is a great winter experience. Algonquin Park has International quality ski trails that are perfectly track set and for the athlete these trails also have a skating lane. Five minutes from the Resort is the East Gate of Algonquin Park and the Leaf Lake Ski Trails start 1 minute inside of that. Algonquin Park has 60 km of spectacular trails, 30 km (6 minutes from the Resort) are groomed as track-set and skating lanes and 30 km (30 minutes from the Resort) are backcountry. Check the Algonquin website and look under ski reports. A Park pass is required to enter the Ski Trail Sytem.

Snow-Shoeing

In Algonquin, thigh-deep snow can occasionally be found in late March. Being blessed with this much snow means that snowshoeing is one of the best ways to see the wilderness in winter. Snowshoeing enthusiasts will find the entire Park open to them (except the ski trails). Two great spots for snowshoeing are through the Algonquin outdoor Logging Museum or through the large maple stand on the hill behind our resort.

Pro-snowshoes are available at the Resort for your daily rental experience from 9am - 5 pm.

Dog Sledding

Mush your own team of four huskies on stunning trails. Your tour guide will give you on-site lessons and then will lead you on a great dog-sledding adventure. The trip departs nearby from the resort's Adventure Stables and into Algonquin. Each trip is approximately 1.5 hours.

  • 40 Huskies bred for running with sleds.
  • 10 single-person Husky mushing sleds.
  • 1 state-of-the-art dog kennel with inside chambers kept above 5’C all year round to help the Huskies rejuvenate faster; fan operated to keep summer temperatures down; concrete floored to prevent disease from forming in the mud; attached outside chambers for the Huskies to have nice scenery and running alleys to keep fit. All under the protection of a roof for the highest quality conditions.
  • Welcomed by the OSPCA ( Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Maximizes the health of the Husky for a very enjoyable experience. Take an active role and support those that care for pets.

Horse Back Riding

  • 20 trail horses, operating year round.
  • All in a beautiful stable adjacent to the dog sledding kennels.
  • 10 acres of fenced-in land for grazing.
  • One hour winter rides, dress very warm.
  • Rugged surroundings can compel you to mount up on your own horse even in the winter. There is nothing quite like exploring the wilderness on horseback with winter white covering all the trees. The horse ranch is a short drive from the resort with bookings made at our front office.

Ice-Fishing

  • 2 ice-fishing huts.
  • 4 fishing rods with all the gear.
  • One Guide, nephew of the famous ‘The Last Guide’.

For ice-fishing on the border of Algonquin Park , call Frank Van Ball (613) 637-5420. Frank is the nephew of the famous Algonquin guide Frankie Kuiack, from which a book was written, The Last Guide. They spent many a day fishing together in the waters of Algonquin Park .

Snowmobiling

New snowmobiles to rent for a morning or afternoon spin, or you can bring your own for unlimited site seeing. Comes complete with 2-up seating, heated handlebars and hand rests, reverse and all the winter snowmobiling clothing. Clothing includes Snell approved helmets, winter coats, pants, gloves and boots. The Two sleds are 4 stroke, non polluting 600cc Polaris and Ski Doo. Drive on 100’s of kilometers of Ontario Snowmobile Clubs of Ontario trails, we are 1 kilometer off of their main trunk line.

  • 2 (4 stroke, non polluting) Snowmobiles.
  • 600cc, 2-up machines, with heated hand warmers and handle bars.
  • 12 Snell helmets, 18 winter jackets & pants, 24 winter boots & mitts.
  • 100’s of kilometers of OFSC trails starting at our door.
  • Snowmobile rentals have GPS tracking system
You must be 21 years of age with a valid drivers license and have a credit card for a $1000.00 signed deposit.We will take you through an 1 ½ hour legal presentation, dress set up procedure and test drive. There is no collision insurance and all damages are your own.

The sleds rentals include clothing . The first drill starts at 9:30 am and return the sleds by 12:30pm. The second drill starts at 1:30 am and return the sleds by 4:30pm.

Ice Skating

Couples Resort maintains a wonderful skating rink on the lake. At night, the rink is lit up so that the two of you may enjoy skating under the stars of the stunning Algonquin night sky. During the day we provide nets and sticks for some friendly competition.
